Accelerated Resolution Therapy

If talk therapy hasn’t helped you move past old pain, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) might. This research-backed approach helps your brain reprocess distressing memories so you can keep the facts, but lose the emotional pain—often in just a few sessions.

I recently completed training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)—and I’m excited to share how transformative this approach can be. I’ve long wanted to add a tool that helps clients move beyond painful past experiences, trauma, or deeply held negative beliefs. ART does exactly that.

Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about ART. It sounded too good to be true. But then, I did several ART sessions as a client working through an issue from my life and wow, I was blown away. I couldn’t believe how much the intense emotions I felt from a traumatic event diffused. They simply went away. I was sold on ART.

Many of the individuals and couples I work with are high-functioning, successful professionals who have done talk therapy before but still feel stuck. They might be struggling with anxiety, relationship pain, infidelity, codependency, or sexual issues like erectile dysfunction or shame from past experiences. While traditional talk therapy is incredibly beneficial, some people respond better to an approach that goes beyond words—and directly targets how emotions are stored in the brain.

That’s where ART comes in.

What Is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a form of psychotherapy that helps people process and resolve distressing experiences—often within just a few sessions. During an ART session, I guide you through a process involving eye movements that mimic the natural processing that happens during REM sleep.

You focus on a difficult event, memory, or thought while following my hand movements with your eyes. This bilateral stimulation helps calm your nervous system and allows your brain to “reprocess” the experience—keeping the facts, but releasing the emotional intensity.

It’s a little like editing a document on your computer and saving a new version. The event stays the same, but the emotional pain tied to it is dramatically reduced.

What ART Can Help With

ART has been shown to bring relief quickly—sometimes in just a few sessions—for many kinds of struggles, including:

✔️ Trauma and post-traumatic stress (PTSD)
✔️ Anxiety, panic, and OCD
✔️ Grief and loss
✔️ Painful relationship experiences and infidelity
✔️ Narcissistic abuse
✔️ Depression
✔️ Phobias and fears
✔️ Codependency
✔️ Sexual trauma, shame, erectile dysfunction, and pain
✔️ Low self-esteem or self-limiting beliefs
✔️ Distressing images or memories you can’t shake
✔️ Overthinking

How ART Differs From Traditional Talk Therapy

One of the most unique aspects of ART is that you don’t have to share the details of your trauma or painful memories out loud. Instead, you visualize the experiences as though you’re watching a movie, and your brain does the work of reprocessing and releasing what no longer serves you.

Many clients describe feeling lighter, calmer, and more at peace after even one session. For those who have tried talk therapy before and found it helpful—but still feel triggered by old emotions—ART can be the missing piece.

Research-Backed and Results-Oriented

ART is supported by research and has been recognized as an evidence-based therapy for trauma and related conditions. It combines elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, and guided imagery, along with rapid eye movements to create lasting emotional change.

Sessions are typically 50 minutes, and many clients notice significant improvement in just two to five sessions.
